Explosion at Gas Station in Chalco

An explosion at an LPG station in Chalco injured one person and damaged several buildings. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

On the morning of Wednesday, March 25th, an explosion at an LPG refueling station caused a significant emergency response in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood of Chalco, State of Mexico. According to the State of Mexico's Civil Protection, the explosion resulted in one injured person and material damage to at least three nearby establishments. The injured person left the scene before emergency services arrived and was not transported by ambulance. The incident occurred around 5:35 AM at a facility of the company Energéticos Chalco, located in the Tierra y Libertad area. Upon arrival, security authorities confirmed that the fire was already under control, allowing them to focus on cooling and risk mitigation efforts. One of the tenants reported that her construction business was damaged by the explosion and demanded that her insurance cover the material damage to her property. “Gas accumulated and blew out all the curtains, the materials, the wrought iron—everything was blown away,” she stated in an interview with NMás. Furthermore, at least three adjacent businesses suffered structural damage, causing concern among local residents. The operation involved state and regional Civil Protection, firefighters, municipal and state police, as well as personnel from the Ministry of National Defense, who cordoned off the area. Authorities continue to conduct investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident and assess the full extent of the damage. Neighbors reported a loud blast that shook nearby homes, followed by a visible fire from several meters away. The fire is believed to have originated from a gas leak in a truck, which detonated in the refueling area, according to the State of Mexico's General Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management. Firefighters from Chalco arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire within minutes.
